What are you listening to?

Your music taste says a lot about yourself but don't ever let other people dictate what you have to listen to. Because when I was young, I actually did this.

In the first years of my teenage time I listened to hiphop/ rap music. I was obsessd with Eminem, listened to his entire discography, watched his movie 8 Mile over and over.

Back then I couldn't even understand the lyrics, I was just vibing to the music.

Few years later I got a friend and he asked me what I prefer in music. Before I could answer, he said "As a real man you should listen to metal music and not this shitty rap music. So what do you like?"

It was like if I didn't listen to metal we wouldn't be friends anymore.

So I told him that I like metal.

Yes I was that kind of person back then.

Just do as other people want you to be.

I was struggling to make friends so I did everything possible to socialize.

Metal wasn't that bad, I really enjoyed it. Even before my rap era I listened to bands like Linkin Park or Korn.

So it wasn't a big change, still now it was real metal and the more brutal it was the better.

We went to metal festivals, made some unforgettable memories.

While being in this scene, everyone always told you that you shouldn't listen to rock or pop music because if you do you would be gay.

At some point I had enough and listened to whatever I wanted but just at home only when I was alone...

While watching TV I saw a music video of Poker Face by Lady Gaga in a commercial break. This was so cool. The first time in my life I was actually hyped for every commercial break.

I was obsessed again.

This changed everything.

I got more open minded.

Not only for music but also for the real world outside. It made me a different person, the person I an today.

Still I realized a few months back that the music that runs in my blood, wasn't rock or pop not even metal or rap. It was swing and jazz. But how?

A few years ago I played the drums and I had a teacher. We always played several genres. When we played jazz/swing music I played without notes, just with the feeling.

I closed my eyes and the drumsticks moved on their own.

While watching a movie and a jazz song came on or when visiting a bar with jazz music in the background I was always vibing with it.

Remembering these exact moments made me realize that I'm in love with this music genre. But why now?

Because I don't really care about other people's opinion that jeopardize my life anymore.
