Light guides your way

My whole professional career I worked as a lightning designer/lightning consultant. When I tell sonebody what I do, they look at me and say

"That sounds cool but I don't really know what that's suppose to be?".

Believe me, when I had my first job interview I told my boss the same question. He explained everything in half an hour and I still didn't get it.

Nonetheless I took the job.

At that time not knowing what I should do as a living, I took the first opportunity.

Half a year later I finally understood my new work and it became a passion.

But what is this job now??

I do the lighting planification for public and private buildings.

For the public ones you need to respect certain norms and oh boy, I never thought lightning could be this complicated.

You can't just go into a room and decide "3 lights here and 4 lights there".

Starting by chosing the actual luminaire, a 3D simulation needs to be done to put the lights in the right direction.

To make sure the room is properly illuminated. A control office will take a look at it and they are pretty strict.

So do your homework to not receiving a decline.

If everything is alright, the concept with all the lights needs to be sold to the client.

In the end I'm also a salesman.

This is the tricky part.

If your client wants everything for free, the concept gets worse with every new adaptation.

Don't get me wrong there are also clients with a lot of money but their problem is that they can't decide what they actually want.

This is the challenge you face, first realize the concept and lastly chose the right products that match the clients budget.

After 10 years of doing exactly this, I'm at a point in my life that I wanna chose something different.

The light guided me to this exact spot but it's time to move on and explore a different field.
